2012-13 Season: electronic.nnm
Ever since a caveman first beat a bone against a rock, humans have responded to new sounds and found new ways to make them. Bones and rocks may have given way to violins and flutes, but the need for the stories that music tells remains unchanged.
And those stories are still being created. The invention of computers gave composers a brand-new way to work with sound, and they were quick to realize the possibilities. Imagination and electronic technology spurred each other on, and the result has been a fantastic journey of exploration, innovation and artistry.
Network for New Music’s 2012-2013 concert season celebrates the music that’s flowed from that invention. Every performance showcases the inventive use of electronic sounds, creating and performing music that extends the expressive range of traditional instruments. Join us and hear for yourself: it’s electronic.nnm, and it’s a season that tells today’s story—one that’s still being written.
THIRD SPACE is a Network for New Music mini-festival of performances and other events taking place from April 5 – April 12, 2013. Using electronic sound and images in combination with traditional instruments, composers create something entirely new for these performances–a blended “third space” that is solely expressive, an extension of the human imagination.
