Songs of Promise on Nov. 3
Join us for the first concert of the 2013-2014 season:
On Sunday, September 29, join Network for New Music musicians Edward Schultz, flute, and Paul Arnold, violin, as they team up with dancer/choreographer Leah Stein and sound engineer Eugene Lew for a new kind of Network event.
Together they’ll explore the iconic American tune Amazing Grace through playful improvisation and variation techniques, and consider the historic connection between the creation of the lyrics of Amazing Grace (written in 1773 by John Newton, ordained in the Church of England) and Christ Church in Philadelphia, the first American Church of England parish, established in 1695.
This event is part of the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage project, New Spaces: New Formats, which is a series of 14 events taking place during the week of Sept. 23, 2013. These events explore how the Philadelphia music community can make use of alternative spaces and new formats to reach out to audiences in new ways.
